In reply to KK Redjoy.

Yes, The Re-Focusing Pattern can be used to stop habits and things you want to stop doing too. (This is called cessation.)

The best way to do it using The Re-Focusing Pattern is to give something for your unconscious mind to understand. For example, the unconscious mind doesn't really understand to NOT do something. If you say, "I want to not smoke," the mind cannot picture a "NOT doing something image," it can only see a mental visual of you smoking and that's not a good mental focus.

So turn the things you want to stop doing into a "toward" image. Example: "I want to be a healthy non-smoker." Or, "I want to be the type of person that does only healthy habits like exercise, eat well, and have pure clean breath." (Something like that. You get the picture.) Now, the mind knows what to focus on.

Once you have identified your specific category/context as a "toward" statement in the first step, then you can ask yourself, "I want to be a healthy lunged, deep breathing, non-smoker type... What scares me?" After you identify your scarey visual, move it aside and create the "Beyond Image" for that context, etc.

In most cases, this process can help you to stop bad habits just as well as start new ones. In a way, they are connected anyway.

The first time I tried the refocusing pattern it worked well. I used it for being motivated to finish my book series that I'm writing. I noticed an immediate improvement in my discipline to write daily. However, the second time I used this system it didn't seem to help at all. Can you use this to help stop smoking?
