The NLP Meta Program called, “Motivation Direction“, helps you to understand motivation at a fundamental level.
Every human, maybe even every creature, is spurred into action by… well, by being *spurred. Ouch! Or, by being enticed.
You are either pushed or pulled. It is called, using either “Away From” or “Toward” motivation.
(* You do know what a cowboy’s spur is don’t you? Cruel invention? Maybe. But it does work to get the horse moving. What do you use to get you moving?)

Quick Tips — Easy Words That Help Influence
What NOT to say if you want to be a World Class Master Influencer.
The easiest way to become good at persuasion and influence is to be charismatic. Learn from this video the ingredients of true charisma. Learn to model the great charismatic leaders of all time such as Abraham Lincoln, John F. Kennedy, Winston Churchill, and even modern day celebrities such as Jennifer Lopez.
Also, learn the converse… when to use the very words you’ve just been taught to avoid using.
Why?
Even though you avoid using these words for the most part, there are rare times that you choose to use these words on purpose consciously. You do this for rapport reasons and for good “pace and lead” influencing.
With this section, you even learn how it’s possible to temporarily switch someone’s meta program making it much easier for you to persuade them. Imagine making an Internally motivated buyer “External” with you. Now you know how!
Meta Program — Motivation Direction
First, learn what this NLP meta program is all about.
Secondly, learn how to uncover your listener’s secret motivation direction. Are they motivated by moving away from something?
Finally, use that language to influence them. If not, you may as well be speaking Greek because they won’t be motivated by what you say if it’s not in their Motivation Direction language.
First Example: If you’re a real estate agent and your buyer is Away From motivated…
Here’s what you DON’T say — “I suggest you make a strong offer from the beginning so that the seller wants to work with you. Imagine living in this house.”
Here’s what you DO say — “Because you don’t want to lose this house, we better make sure the offer is high enough that we don’t turn the seller off right from the beginning. Imagine if the seller refuses to do a counter offer.”
Second Example: If your child is Toward motivated…
Here’s what you DON’T say — “If you don’t eat your vegetables you’ll get 10 minutes in the corner.”
Here’s what you DO say — “When you eat all your vegetables you get a **big bowl of ice cream after.”
** Or, I’ll let you call Grandma and Grandpa. Utilize whatever is enticing for your child and obviously whatever fits with your values for what’s good for your child.
Isn’t that a bribe?
If it doesn’t seem appropriate to use Toward Motivation enticements to you, you may be demonstrating that you have a strong Away From Motivation level.
Also, to teach our children to be driven by “inner satisfaction for a job well done”, .etc., simply say, “Eat your vegetables and then you will feel really good inside for obeying Mommy.” Or again, whatever is appropriate for them to learn to find internal satisfaction in doing things. It’s worth noting, this is Toward Motivation direction. By speaking this way to your child you are teaching your child Toward motivation skills, which you learn in this video is important for learning how to be goal oriented and to learn how to prioritize well.
Practice What You Learn
Your assignment to practice what you learn this week is to notice both others and yourself and how much you use the “no-no” words and what to do about it when you do so that you influence both yourself and others effectively.
One quick benefit you get here too… if you’re eating too much of something that you want to cut down on… like chocolate, for example, you’ll now have a quick easy tip on how to control what you eat.
See you there…
